MAST Carbon - MAST Carbon
MAST Carbon has extensive experience and expertise in the development of carbon materials, their characterisation and application.
We work with other organisations in many ways and have a flexible approach to maximise commercial success.
- Long track record
- World class team
- Extensive materials background
- Comprehensive Laboratory
- many Patents & Publications
We have a long track record in Collaborative programs spanning over 25 years. We welcome invitations to participate where our expertise adds significant value.
We have close links with many Universities and Institutions who are key partners in past, current and hopefully future programs.
- UK TSB Programs
- EU FRAMEWORK etc. Programs
- Worldwide Programs
- Direct University (PhD, D.Eng etc.)
A major part of business is providing direct expertise to other companies and Institutions. This is performed under strict confidentiality with the customer controlling any public release.
We also work directly for Government agencies with strategic long term requirements.
- Strictly confidential operation
- No customer overlap.
- Chemical Industry
- Medical Industry
- Aerospace and Military
- Advanced Energy
- CO2 technologies
MAST Carbon has extensive laboratory and pilot plant facilities for the development, characterisation and small scale manufacture of novel carbon materials.
We do not currently work on carbon nanotubes, fullarenes, graphene or diamond film materials.
- Advanced analytical capability
- Synthesis laboratory
- Lab to commercial scale furnaces
- Forming equipment
- Pilot Plant systems
- In-house engineering capability
Our primary expertise in materials is the manipulation of phenolic resin (and derivatives), cellulosic materials and other polymers to produce formed carbons with specific pore structures.
We have also worked extensively on traditional activated carbons from natural precursors, which have limitations but they are cheap!
- Phenolic resin based carbons
- Cellulose based carbons
- PAN and PANOX carbons
- Other polymer carbons
- Natural product carbons
MAST Carbon was founded in 1995 from the Carbon and Catalysis Team at the British Petroleum Research Centre, in this previous form it was responsible for supporting the requirements of a global company with expertise in carbon materials.
The Company has continued to develop its own carbon related technology as well as participate in collaborative programs, provide Research and Development capability to other organisations and operate as Consultants.
Our primary expertise is the properties and application of porous carbons, generically called activated carbon but this covers materials from nanoporous materials through the IUPAC defined meso and macro pore region. We are also involved in some structural carbon materials
We do work with some traditional materials, but for demanding applications carbons derived from synthtic raw materials are required and we have extensive experience in this area.
